Democracy is not Broken
The disenfranchisement you may be feeling is by design. However, we can not continue to give up our power by sitting on the sidelines.
WE CAN NO LONGER GIVE UP OUR POWER BY ALLOWING OTHERS TO SPEAK OVER AND ABOUT US. IT’S TIME WE RECLAIM OUR POWER BY telling our own stories at the polls.
CAST YOUR BALLOTS
ON NOV 8TH!
Welcome
Queer, Trans, and Intersex individuals don’t often see themselves reflected in the systems around us.
This is largely because we are not actively engaged with these systems.
Whether it’s because of obstacles that we face when trying to cast our ballots or our own apathy toward the systems that continue to fail us, with only 1 in 5 of us being registered to vote, we have one of the lowest voter registration rates of any other community.
WHAT ARE WE DOING?
We’re organizing to make sure that members of the LGBTQIA community get registered to vote and also make it to the polls.
WHAT DOES VOTING HAVE TO DO WITH BEING LGBTQIA?
Historically, members of the LGBTQIA community have faced unreasonable obstacles and hurdles to keep us from being able to cast our ballots. The impact is felt most intensely for Disabled QTIPOC (Queer, Trans*, Intersex, People of Color), who face additional barriers based on colorism and abelism .
Our Goals
We will hold annual voter registration drives until every member of the LGBTQIA community is registered to vote and able to cast their ballots.
Growing leaders
As we do this work, we will be looking for passionate community members and our allies, that want to grow their leadership skills to attend our organizer trainings and various skill building workshops.
Looking for:
Voter Registration hosts
Voter registration hosts will hold voter registration drive in their local community. These drives can be as large or small as you are comfortable with.
Designated drivers and poll buddIES
Not everyone has the transportation they need to get to the polls, nor is it always safe to go alone.
Designated Drivers make sure that our folks get to cast their ballots safely.
COMING OUT PARTY HOSTS
After the vote, it’s time to have some fun by celebrating our participation in democracy!
